It’s been a slow week, you guys. Not much has happened, but this is a weekly newsletter, and I will deliver. Expect some fun, additional emails in your inbox in these coming weeks!!!
Since this newsletter goes from Sunday to Saturday, I was originally going to include this next week’s email, but I just couldn’t hit send without acknowledging this awful news. Earlier today, it was announced that Virgil Abloh passed away from a rare form of cancer, after privately battling with it since his diagnosis in 2019.
I was at a loss for words when I first heard the news. I didn’t expect for it to affect me the way it did, so my heart goes out to those who actually knew him personally.
As many of you know, Virgil founded the high-end streetwear brand, Off-White, in 2013. Prior to that, he had a long time collaborative relationship with Kanye West, after the two met when Virgil was interning at Fendi. Before founding Off-White, Virgil made waves with his streetwear brand, Pyrex. In 2018, he was named artistic director of Louis Vuitton’s menswear ready-to-wear line, making history as the first Black designer in this position. The appointment also made him one of the few black designer’s at the helm of a major French, fashion house.
Regardless of your personal opinion on Virgil Abloh’s work and designs, there is no denying that he inspired millions, and truly left his mark in the fashion industry. He was a visionary and constantly helped to pave the way for young creatives. A favorite of the everyday streetwear lover and the A-list celebrity alike, Virgil’s legacy will be forever remembered, whether encased in quotes or not.
Rest In Peace.
If you haven’t read Tom Ford’s review of House of Gucci, I need you to stop what you’re doing right now and do that. Watching the movie first might help put some things into context, but honestly, not necessary. I don’t know what was more camp, the movies, or the fact that he wrote this review for Air Mail. Also, speaking of Tom Ford, who is responsible for the casting of him in House of Gucci? JAIL!!!
p.s. do we want a review on the movie and its fashion, because… choices were definitely made! lmk.
- Anya Taylor-Joy for The Sunday Times Style; Unfortunately, she is wearing all Dior. You might recall, she is a Dior girly now. What this means is that, the only part of the looks that I enjoyed, was Anya. Styled by Dean DiCriscio.
- Andrew Garfield for GQ; Overall, I enjoyed this shoot. Yes, some of the looks were a bit boring, but the Prada and The Row looks took me out. Styled by Mobolaji Dawodu.
- Tracee Ellis Ross for Elle Mexico; I love Tracee and I love how she always goes for it. These looks are serving me up the holiday wardrobe inspo I needed. That CJR moment is to die for. Styled by Karla Welch.
I’m sorry, but the design for this Ariana Grande Christmas merch is sending me into orbit. THE PONYTAIL! Honestly, work.
Hailee Steinfeld wearing David Koma to the Hawkeye premiere, is a little boring, but fine. I understand the purple, since that’s her character’s signature color, but I wish the look had been styled around that amazing coat she actually took off on the carpet.
Michelle Obama wearing CJR is lovely. When you think CJR, you think color, but the man has range y’all, and don’t you forget it! The texture on this is really beautiful.
It is no secret that I love Gemma Chan, and her journey as a fashion girl brings me much joy. This isn’t my favorite look from her, but this color is gorgeous and Gemma sells me on it. Also the Judith Leiber bag is a fun time.
Uhm, hi Uzo, I love this? It’s a simple red dress, but the latex is everything, and I love the cut and shaping at the waist. Suddenly, red isn’t my least favorite color.
SZA in Richard Quinn. That is all.
Jason Rembert has really been on his shit lately. Mary J. Blige in this Christian Cowan bodysuit and A-Morir boots is everything to me. This color is beautiful and it fits her perfectly. I expect nothing else from her.
Okay, I know this isn’t from this week, but somehow I missed this cover, and I can’t not say anything about it, because I’m obsessed? The liquidy sequins and the way that sheer, tissue paper thin, shirt wraps underneath? Stunning.
So, you might have notice I changed the formatting of the miscellaneous section. I decided to include the images instead of just linking to the looks and things I’m talking about. Do we prefer this? Or was a quick list more to your liking? I am here to please, so let your thoughts be heard in the comments.
Toodles!
