Oh, this one’s gonna be fun. The British Fashion Awards, I mean the Richard Quinn Awards, I mean The Fashion Awards were yesterday, and while not all of the looks were a hit, they were at least, mostly interesting.
Before we get into the looks, here’s a little rundown of the winners:
Designer of the Year Award: Kim Jones for Dior men and Fendi (honestly, fair)
Isabella Blow Award: Ib Kamara (absolutely!!!!)
Trailblazer Award: Alesandrro Michele (go off)
BFC Foundation Award: Nensi Dojaka (we love to see it)
Outstanding Achievement Award: Tommy Hilfiger (I get it, but lol)
Independent British Designer Award: Simone Rocha (my queen)
Leaders of Change Creative: Alessandro Michele, Demna Gvasalia, Jonathan Anderson, Kim Jones, Virgil Abloh (what a group)
Leaders of Change Environment: Ahluwalia, Bethany Williams, Gabriela Hearst, Phoebe English, Stella McCartney (we love sustainability!!!))
Leaders of Change People: Edward Enninful, Harris Reed, Kenya Hunt, Samuel Ross, Telfar Clemens (xoxo)
Special Recognition Award: Dylan Jones
Addison, you poor thing. I love Richard Quinn, I do, but this is a no for me. The bust is ill-fitting, the gloves are too bunchy, the mermaid bottom is strange, and it kind of ages her? Also, other than the embroidered top, it doesn’t immediately scream, Richard Quinn, to me.
Well, I like the lace gloves! I think the tea-length dress and neckline is sweet, but the decomposed flower creature in the center is not it.
Be prepared for tons of Richard Quinn. Prior to being called The Fashion Awards, they were called The British Fashion Awards, which is why I’m assuming there is so much Quinn. Here, I’m not mad about it. I don’t mind the repeating motif, and I think the look fits Alton really nicely. I also enjoy the chartreuse, diamond buttons that look like flowers, they tie into the daisies in the print.
While I don’t mind the dress, I’m not crazy about the boots. A tight, latex moment a la Richard Quinn would have been better. I also would have preferred the material of the boots and gloves to be the same. There’s too many different fabrics happening.
Alright, Billy, I Like it. There’s something interesting about how the houndstooth print gets smaller at the center of the dress, like it’s pulling you right inside. We have a little(not so little) pagoda shoulder happening that I’m not mad about. You might be thinking, this is actually pretty toned down for Billy. No, no. He arrived with a full group of dancers. The chaos is never lacking.
When I first saw this I thought it was Gucci, but it’s actually Robert Wun’s upcoming AW22 collection. Not bad, but also not groundbreaking. Wun posted a photo of the look where there was also a mask/hat thing that looked very Robert Wun. While I understand how that might not have been practical to host in, it did make the look more interesting.
Bimini wearing my large intestine, sorry, H&M. Confusing.
This is stunning. Surprised that there wasn’t more Nensi Dojaka on the carpet, but house codes are very evident, and this color is gorgeous. The black and green work together so nicely, and I love how the black straps coming down the dress aren’t attached at the end and just fall away.
The concept is there, the execution not so much. I appreciate that all the accessories are a darker pink, instead of just one of them randomly being different, however that’s where my praise ends. I like the idea of a larger hip area, however I feel like it’s not fitted well enough to give that full effect and the fabric looks a bit cheap. It’s too bubbly around the pelvic region.
This is boring, not crazy about the slit and cutout, could fit better.
Oh I very much love this. It’s clearly very Richard Quinn. The only thing that would have made this better for me is if the boot was a full stocking/pant moment.
I think the gradient of this embroidery is really beautiful, however I’m not too crazy about the train, it feels out of place here. Also the toe of those heels is a choice.
If you’re gonna do simple, do it well. Case in point. This black, crepe gown is really lovely. It fits Miss Dula Peep nicely and is hemmed perfectly. I love the detached sleeve and collar as well.
You might think I’m crazy for liking this, but… I like this. Regardless of the soft spot I hold for Paco Rabanne, I think it’s interesting how the fabrics cary the same motifs throughout, however you’re questioning whether the chainmail and graphic are all one, or shining through, or layered. It’s a fun time, idc.
It’s fine, but I’m not obsessed. I like how the sheer, high-neck of the bodice has polkadots to match the tights. It has that full bodysuit vibe of a lot of Richard Quinn looks.
Love this. A simple floral gown, but it’s rounded so beautifully, and I like how the neckline also has a bit of rounding. I think the latex glove here is great, and she looks beautiful.
Okay, go off! I’m not up logo mania’s ass, but I don’t mind this at all. I think it’s fun, I like that the sneakers carry the same color way, and the pants being a little unzipped is a cheeky touch. Respectfully looking.
I enjoy both these looks. I think they both just show how Gabriela creates simple, nice textiles. Gabriela’s sheer poncho is a little off center, but I like the black socks, they’re silly.
I mean, absolutely! Listen, she looks beautiful. This color is insane, and I’m actually not mad about this one-shoulder cape moment(?)
There’s a lot to unpack here. Every time I try and type something, I just giggle.
Obsessed. Love Simone Rocha, and I feel like every time I see Griff somewhere she’s always taking a risk and having fun with what she’s wearing. She’s becoming someone I look forward to seeing. If you’re going to wear tulle, this is one of the designers you should be choosing from.
I really hope everyone that came with H&M got PAID. And I mean PAID!!! Because y’all were done so dirty. Amongst the many things wrong with this, I don’t think her bra being visible was intentional and I don’t think a belt was at all necessary. Also H&M needs to miss me with that sustainable shit, it’s laughable.
I actually think this is really nice! Usually I wouldn’t be so crazy about this one-sided shawl, but it has the appearance of a suit jacket, with the lapel coming across the chest. I don’t know, it adds something to an otherwise simple dress.
It’s simple, but it’s so Harris, and I’m into it. Love a vest moment, love a flair pant. Chic. Also I would just like to mention that every time I use the word chic, I hear it in my head in one of the many House of Gucci accents.
I don’t love this. The wrapping of it all just isn’t impressing and the velvet feels random. I think my main problem with most of these Tommy Hilfiger looks, is that they don’t feel very Tommy Hilfiger to me at all.
It’s giving Mad Max and honestly, I’m here for it. Don’t @ me, don’t say anything. I really love all the textures here, and I think the cutouts are subtle but nice. Maaaybe a different shoe.
Okay, I don’t hate the spirals on the hips, but I don’t love the one on the chest. It’s giving butthole, a little bit. I think two was enough.
I think this jacket and pants fit very nicely, and I don’t mind the idea of a larger shoulder with that tulle accent, however I feel like you can really see the shoulder pad and it’s giving linebacker.
This is simple and there’s not too much to say, but I think she looks really lovely! I think it fits her well, and the little bolero-like moment of the dress is sweet.
Isn’t it sad that this is the best H&M look? I need to take a break.
She looks so beautiful. I love the flow of this dress, the all black underneath, the matching headscarf, the embellished wrist cuffs. *chef’s kiss*
It’s giving, pop star who’s fans threw a flag on stage for them to interact with. Then we’ve got a boring, all black look, with leather gloves underneath the long sleeves(?) and ill-fitting pants.
I just really enjoy everything that’s happening here. This is one of those looks that makes my synesthesia v happy because of the colors. I like that the long sleeve underneath is a different shade of orange, it adds a bit of separation. I think the gold shoe works here, honestly, and it matches the clutch so that’s enough for me.
I’m… not mad at this. I’ve seen far worse from Chanel, so maybe that’s why i’m fine with this. Is it anything groundbreaking? No. But it fits nicely, I’m into the deep v, and I like the white accents.
While this lace is beautiful, being Polish has permanently ruined it for me, because I think of one of my mom’s many tablecloths. That visual aside, it’s a nice dress. In this case, I’m not made at the sheer paneling not being close to her skin tone, because I don’t think it’s trying to be nude, I think it’s supposed to be white.
I’m into this, however I think it would have been so hot without a bralette underneath. Also the pants are a bit wonky.
This is hot. Love the cutout and the laced up side, however I rather have not seen the lining of the dress, and a strappy red shoe would have been much better.
Just a lovely little venus flytrap!!! I’m really into this concept. The corset, unfortunately, looks to be bending and creasing in some areas, but overall, I do enjoy this.
Uhm, no?
Green and black seem to be one of the night’s themes, and honestly, it’s worked every time. I really like this! It’s a bit more casual, but still elegant. The little floral embellishments are nice and I like the subtle belly chain. Paloma is a fashion girly, y’all. But, is there something happening in the boob area, like are we seeing the nipple pasty imprint?
It’s very Gucci in the way that everything is mix and match, however not my favorite. I don’t mind the color palette, but it’s underwhelming and the pants could fit better.
I feel like I’m looking at two dresses here both fighting to be seen. Good fairy godmother outfit.
I don’t hate this as much as everyone else seems to, but something about the coat isn’t working for me. Also, I feel like every time I see Nick Jonas his suits are either too small or too big, never just right. You familiar with Goldilocks? Y’all should talk!
Okay!!! I’m into it. That caging adds a little spice to a black suit. I feel like I’m looking at a screen in a confessional, but like make it fashion, and like I’m into it. Pants could have been just a smidge longer.
It’s just a sack dress that’s giving too much sack and not enough dress. I feel like there’s also a lack of accessories.
Overall, I do like this, however I feel like the rounding of the gown is a little wonky and I’m not sure we’re supposed to see the black lining underneath?
I do love a cutout, however with the strap across the middle, the one sleeve, and the slit, it’s a bit too much.
I mean, it’s boring. If you were going to go with tartan, why not just go with Burberry. Maybe not current Burberry, but still.
Max Wolfe would NEVER!!! Do I really have to explain to you why this is bad?
Someone said she was wearing baby poop. Lol, stop it. I like this. Love a quilted moment, and i think the puffer sleeves are fun.
I’m into this! I like the texture of the dress, and I think the white looks nice against the green. I also love that the shoe matches the dress perfectly.
So this did in fact happened. What do we think? Was there fashion at The Fashion Awards? Debatable! My best dressed has to go to Camille Charriere in that beautiful green Nensi Dojaka. I can’t stop thinking about it. Worst? Anyone in H&M.
TTYL, LYLAS.
